It is quite surprising, but the discovery of the bubble gum which led to that of the bubble gum machine was by accident. It was discovered by Walter Diemer in 1928. He was just experimenting with a number of varying recipes of gum when he came across a mixture which began to form into bubbles. What he then did was to take it to a grocery store in order to test it. To his surprise all the gum was sold out in that day alone.

After taking the bubble gum to the Fleer Company for production and sales he taught the sales men how to eventually blow the bubbles by using the gum. The company did a good job by helping in manufacture of the bubble gum machine. Indeed without the bubble gum machine it will be impossible to produce the bubble gum in large quantities. The salesmen then taught all the buyers of the bum how to blow it. This proved very successful making the Dubble bubble gum the only bubble gum available for years on end.

All the different types of bubble gums presently have their unique formula when being put in the bubble gum machine. There are some general steps though which are followed. All the constituents are put in a steam heated kettle which is cooked for long hours at very high temperatures until they melt and turn thick. It then looks like the maple syrup which is then put through some mesh screen filters after which they are put into vacuum strainers. The liquid which is now obviously hot is put into a machine where sugar, corn syrup and flavouring are added to the mixture.

After all this, the sweetened liquid is then put into a cooler where temperatures are dropped to solidify the gum ready for the extruding machine. This machine will then turn over the gum to form a particular mixture where a roller then flattens it out. Those which are quite thin are used to make the stick gum and the more thick ones into gums which are candy coated. Before they are covered, packaged and sold on the market the stick gum will go through a high powered machine for this to be done.

These days the blowing of bubble gums has become a modern trend among families and friends around the world over.
